Brunswick, Maine-Freshman guard Jess Korzec (West Brookfield, MA) and junior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) each scored 16 points for the Rhode Island College women’s basketball team, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Anchorwomen fell, 75-56, in a non-conference battle with Bowdoin on Sunday afternoon.

The two teams battled back and forth in the fist 10 minutes with RIC (2-9) holding a slim, 14-13, advantage with 9:24 remaining in the first half. The Polar Bears (10-2) used a 10-2 run, capped by a three-pointer by freshman guard Kate Kerrigan (Wellesley Hills, MA), to take a 23-16 lead with 5:51 remaining in the frame. Bowdoin outscored the Anchorwomen by one down the stretch to take the 31-22 lead into the locker room.

Bowdoin opened the second half on a 12-6 run over the first 7:29 to open a 43-28 lead. A layup by Korzec with 8:18 remaining cut the lead to 10, 50-40, but the Polar Bears responded by rattling off eight of the next 11 points, capped by a pair of free throws from senior guard Sara Binkhorst (West Hartford, CT), to make the score 58-43. Bowdoin was never threatened down the stretch, pulling away for the 75-56 victory.
