ALEX MOORE NAMED U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division III National
Player of the Week

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College sophomore guard Alex Moore (West Newbury, MA) was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Div. III National Player of the Week  for her performance in helping the Anchorwomen go 3-0 and increase their current win streak to four games last week.


 Moore was named both the Little East Conference and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) N.E. Div. III Womenís Basketball Player of the Week yesterday. For more details, please click here.


Moore began the week by tallying a then career-high 25 points, to go along with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals as the Anchorwomen topped LEC foe Western Connecticut, 70-53, on Jan. 20.


She followed that performance by shattering her career-high in points, scoring 35, which included a half-court three-point heave to send the game into overtime as time expired, in an 87-76 victory over Connecticut College on Jan. 22.


She rounded out the week by scoring 13 points and registering seven rebounds as the Anchorwomen earned a 61-59 victory over Eastern Connecticut in LEC action on Jan. 24.




For the season, Moore has appeared in 17 games, starting all of them. She is averaging 12.2 ppg. She has tallied 82 rebounds, 48 assists, 15 blocks and 38 steals on the year.


Head Coach Glenn Senecalís team is 6-11 overall and 4-3 (third place tie) in the Little East.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, Jan. 29 (5:30 p.m.).


The U.S. Basketball Writers Association was formed in 1956 at the urging of then-NCAA Executive Director Walter Byers. With some 900 members worldwide, it is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. It has selected an All-America team since the 1956-57 season.
