Jean-Jacques Ranked Fourth in the Nation

Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College wrestling team is ranked fifth in the latest New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) coaches’ poll announced on Feb. 17. Five Anchormen were ranked in their respective weight class in the poll.


RIC received 86 points in the poll, while intra-state rivals Roger Williams (150 points) and Johnson & Wales (135 points) held down the top two spots. Williams (112 points) and Coast Guard (111 points) were the next two teams, followed by the Anchormen.


Sophomore Terrance Jean-Jacques (Haverhill, MA) is ranked the No. 1 most dominant wrestler in Div. III by the NCAA. The ranking is based upon total number of pins and technical falls a wrestler has accumulated. Jean-Jacques is ranked fourth in the country at the heavyweight division by He is currently ranked No. 1 in N.E. at 285 lbs. in the NEWA poll. Jean-Jacques is 28-0 with 19 pins.


The Anchormen had four more wrestlers ranked in the top-six in their weight class in New England. Senior Jonathan Murray (Brentwood, NY) is ranked fifth at 125 lbs., junior Ricondo Cole (Cranston, RI) is ranked second at 141 lbs., junior Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) is ranked third at 149 lbs. and freshman Matt Libby (Bridgewater, MA) is ranked sixth at 165 lbs.

Head Coach Jay Jones’ Anchormen are 9-8 overall and 8-5 against NEWA competition.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will close out the regular season at home against Bridgewater State (4 p.m.) on Friday, Feb. 21.
