Worcester, Mass.-Sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) picked up a win at No. 5 singles and at No. 3 doubles with partner, junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI), as the Rhode Island College womenís tennis team dropped a closely-contested match, 5-4, to Clark in the season-opener for both clubs on Tuesday night at the Corash Tennis Courts.


Clark (1-0) sophomore Isabelle Long (Bellevue, WA) and freshman Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, CO) topped RIC (0-1) junior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) and sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA), 8-5, at No. 1 doubles.


Clark senior Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, MA) and classmate Kera Snyder (South Portland, ME) topped senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and junior Noelle Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-6, at No. 2 doubles. Martin and Nastasi bested junior Stephanie Gallant (Charlton, MA) and freshman Emily Shuman (Needham, MA), 8-3, at No. 3 doubles.

No. 1 singles saw Long top Reilly, (6-4, 6-7, (8-6)), while Shuman topped Campanella (6-0, 6-4) at the No. 2 flight. Reddy defeated Snyder (6-0, 6-1) at No. 3 singles, while RIC senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) topped Kravetz (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 4 slot. Nastasi bested Horowitz (6-3, 6-7, (8-6)) at No. 5 singles and No. 6 singles saw Clark sophomore Misa Mai (Sanford, ME) edge Tiberi (6-4, 6-3).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Salve Regina on Thursday, Sept. 3 (3:30 p.m.).
