Boston, Mass.-UMass Boston freshman forward Julia Masionis (Milford, MA) recorded one goal and added one assist as the Beacons topped the Rhode Island College women’s soccer team, 3-0, in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.


The Beacons (2-3-1, 1-0 LEC) and the Anchorwomen (1-5, 0-1 LEC) battled to a scoreless draw in the first half, with UMB freshman goalkeeper Alyssa Fugiel (Easthampton, MA) making five saves, while RIC freshman goalkeeper Stefanie Togbasi (Providence, RI) made six saves in the stanza. It was Togbasi's first career start.


Boston wasted no time getting on the board in the 49th minute when Masionis slipped a crossing pass to freshman forward Jaclyn O’Grady (Somers, CT) who quickly fired it into the net for the 1-0 advantage.

The Beacons doubled their lead just 55 seconds later when O’Grady fed a long pass to senior midfielder Natasha Stibor (San Francisco, CA) who beat the defense and upped the Beacons’ lead to a pair of goals.


Masionis rounded out the scoring for the Beacons when she found the ball after a high bounce on a pass from sophomore defender Cassie Levesque (Methuen, MA) in the 74th minute.


Togbasi (0-1) turned aside 12 shots in the defeat with Fugiel (2-3) making seven stops in the shutout victory. The Beacons held a 27-12 advantage in shots and a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Framingham State on Wednesday, Sept. 23 (4 p.m.).
