Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College has named Tyler Daffinee as an assistant wrestling coach. He will assist Head Coach Jay Jones with all facets of the program including recruiting, scouting, administering practice and match coaching.


Daffinee joins the staff after spending the past three seasons on the sidelines with the  Ithaca College Bombers. While at Ithaca, Daffinee assisted with practices, scouted opponents and assisted student-athletes with training and match preparation. He is also a managing partner at Arete Acquisitions where he works on projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.


“I want to thank Coach Jones for the opportunity,” Daffinee says. “He has built a strong tradition here at RIC and I look forward to being a part of it.”


“We are very excited to have Tyler join the staff,” Jones said. “He has a tremendous amount of experience, coming from perennial power Ithaca. He has already shown initiative and enthusiasm for the task at hand and will be a great example for our student-athletes to emulate.”


As a wrestler at Ithaca from 2003-2007, Daffinee notched 30 wins overall, nine dual victory and 11 falls. As a senior in 2006-07, He went 11-15 overall with five falls. As a junior in 2005-2006, Daffinee went 7-10 overall with two falls.


As a sophomore in 2004-05, he went 6-3 with one fall and as a freshman in 2003-04, Daffinee went 6-6 with three falls.


He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics-computer science from Ithaca in 2006. Daffinee also completed his master’s degree in the art of teaching mathematics from Ithaca in 2008.


A Binghamton, N.Y., native, Daffinee currently resides in Warwick, R.I.
