LACE LEADS ANCHORWOMEN TO SPLIT
AT SALVE REGINA

Newport, R.I.-Senior outside hitter Kelsey Lace (Glendale, RI) finished with 27 kills and 36 digs as Rhode Island College split a tri-match, hosted by Salve Regina on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen (1-2) opened with a 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 26-28, 18-25) loss to the Seahawks (2-1). Freshman outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) had nine kills, five service aces and six digs. Lace led the squad with 11 winners and 22 digs. Sophomore setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) registered 29 assists and 15 digs. Junior middle blocker Leah Drolet (Riverside, RI) posted nine kills.

RIC rebounded to defeat St. Joseph's (L.I.), 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20), in the club's second match, paced by Lace's 16 kills and 14 digs. Junior middle blocker Sierra Smith (Longmont, CO) had eight kills, while White dished out 28 assists.

 

Ward (16) and Drolet (12) finished second and third on the team in kills on the day. White totaled 57 assists. Junior libero Megan Armburg (Swansea, MA) and White posted 34 and 25 digs, respectively.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Clark on Tuesday, Sept. 8 (7 p.m.).
