ANCHORWOMEN WIN THIRD STRAIGHT
IN, 6-3, VICTORY OVER SUFFOLK

Providence, R.I.-Senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) each notched victories in both singles and doubles action to lead the Rhode Island College women’s tennis team to a 6-3 non-conference victory over Suffolk at the RIC Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon.

 

No. 1 doubles saw Suffolk (2-1) sophomore Valentina Medina (San Andrés, Colombia) and junior Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakstahan) topple RIC (3-1) junior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) and sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA), 8-0.

 

The Anchorwomen swept the next two pairings with senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and Martin besting seniors Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, CT) and Abby Trigilio (Ipswich, MA), 8-3, at No. 2 doubles.

No. 3 doubles saw Cannata and sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) top sophomore Jacquelyn Nakamura (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) and freshman Meagan French (Newton, NH), 8-1.

 

Singles action saw Medina beat Reilly at No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-3), while the No. 2 flight saw Sagyndykova top Campanella (6-4, 6-1).

 

The Anchorwomen would clinch the match by sweeping the next four points, starting with Reddy besting Eshoo (6-2, 6-1) at No. 3 singles. No. 4 singles saw Cannata top Trigilio (6-0, 6-0) with Nastasi topping sophomore Isabel Rathlev (Wellesley, MA) by an identical margin at the No. 5 flight. No. 6 singles saw Martin edge by senior Lyndsay Reese (Saco, ME) (6-4, 6-3).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Gordon on Thursday, Sept. 10 (4 p.m.).
