AGYEMANG HELPS RIC TO, 3-0, SHUTOUT
WIN AT WESTFIELD STATE

Westfield, Mass.--Sophomore midfielder Solomon Agyemang (Pawtucket, RI), sophomore forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) and freshman midfielder Dennis Vazquez (Providence, RI) each tallied goals as the Anchormen topped Westfield State, 3-0, in non-conference menís soccer action on Wednesday night.

 

RIC (9-4) jumped out to the 1-0 advantage when Dogbey scored his conference leading 12th goal of the season off a feed from freshman forward Steven Duncan (Barrington, RI) in the 26th minute. The Anchormen struck again in the 30th minute when Duncan recorded his second helper of the game, setting up Agyemang for his first goal of the season.

RIC junior goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) recorded four saves in the half with Westfield State (5-8-1) sophomore keeper Alex Kraver (West Springfield, MA) turning aside four also.

 

The second half was a tightly contested battle with each team putting pressure on the opposing keeper. The Anchormen would finally score the insurance goal in the 87th minute when Vazquez scored an unassisted marker, his fourth of the season.

 

Moura (9-3) stopped seven shots for his fourth blank sheet of the year. Kraver (4-3-1) turned aside 10 in the defeat. With the shutout, Moura and the RIC defense havenít allowed a goal in the last 234:51 seconds of action.

 

RIC held a 20-12 advantage in shots and a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks for the game. 

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at Eastern Connecticut on Saturday, Oct. 24 (1 p.m.).
