Providence, R.I.—Senior Kristen Rose (North Dartmouth, MA) won the deciding match at No. 4 singles to lead fourth-seeded UMass Dartmouth to a 5-4 win over top-seeded Rhode Island College in semifinal action of the 2015 Little East Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.


The Corsairs (10-6) advance to face second-seeded Bridgewater State in the Championship Match on Saturday, Oct. 24. The loss ends the Anchorwomen’s (12-3) season. RIC had previously beaten UMD, 6-3, in the two squads’ regular season meeting on Sept. 22.


No. 1 doubles saw RIC’s duo of Sophomore Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) top UMD freshman Jenna Lahaie (Lakeville, MA) and senior Maggie LeBrun (Mattapoisett, MA), 8-4.


Senior Sadie Campanella (Chepachet, RI) and junior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) cruised to victory at No. 2 doubles, topping sophomores Kheyla Orival (Woburn, MA) and Kerry Magoon (Marshfield, MA), 8-2.

Senior Tressa Cannata (Cranston, RI) and sophomore Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) teamed up at No. 3 doubles, falling to sophomore Mollie McCaffrey (Taunton, MA) and senior Kristen Rose (North Dartmouth, MA), 8-4.


RIC won at No. 1 singles as Reilly downed Lahaie (6-1, 6-3). The Anchorwomen also won at No. 2 singles as Campanella picked up a shutout (6-0, 6-0) against Magoon.


The Corsairs countered with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. McCaffrey bested Nastasi (6-2, 6-4) and sophomore Samantha Rollings (Tiverton, RI) defeated Martin (6-3, 6-1).


LeBrun outlasted Reddy at No. 3 singles (2-6, 7-5, 6-1), coming back from a first set loss to tie the match, 4-4.


Rose was able to defeat Cannata (6-4, 6-4) at No. 4 singles to decide the match and lift the Corsairs past the Anchorwomen.
