CURRAN WINS BREASTSTROKE
AT BLUE PENTATHLON

West Hartford, Conn.-Rhode Island College sophomore Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15.20) to lead the Anchorwomen’s swim team at the Blue Jay Pentathlon hosted by the University of St. Joseph on Friday evening.

 

Rhode Island College finished fourth in a four-team field with a team score of 30. Eastern Connecticut finished first (270), followed by Western New England (143) and the hosts (85). 

 

Along with her first place finish, Curran placed third in the 100-yard IM (1:10.23), eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.59) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:03.36), while also placing 14th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.45). She was also a member of the fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:06.22) and the sixth place 200-yard medley relay (2:30.16).

Freshman Madison Lane (Barrington, RI) placed sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.88), 17th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:15.97) and 25th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:35.68). She was also a member of the fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:06.22) and the sixth place 200-yard medley relay (2:30.16).

 

Freshman Kimberly Olivos (Providence, RI) finished 43rd in both the 100-yard backstroke (2:09.18) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:39.70) and was also a member of the fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:06.22) and the sixth place 200-yard medley relay (2:30.16).

 

Freshman Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) finished 13th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.34), 18th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.33), 23rd in the 100-yard IM (1:21.90) and 28th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:22.06). She was also a member of the fifth place 200-yard freestyle relay (2:06.22) and the sixth place 200-yard medley relay (2:30.16).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2015 Louise Goodrum Invitational, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 7 (noon).
