Gorham, Maine--Rhode Island College senior outside hitters Michelle Malboeuf (Cumberland, RI) and Kelsey Lace (Glendale, RI) combined for 31 kills, 18 digs and five blocks as the Rhode Island College volleyball team rallied from one set down to take a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine in Little East action on Saturday afternoon.


The Anchorwomen (17-11, 3-4 LEC) will be the No. 6 seed in the upcoming 2015 Little East Conference Women’s Volleyball Tournament and will travel to third-seeded Plymouth State in first round action on Tuesday, Nov. 3. RIC edged the Panthers, 3-2, in the two clubs’ regular season meeting on Sept. 26.

The Huskies (11-19, 1-6 LEC) took the back-and-forth first set by a score of 26-24. The Huskies hit .256 as a team with 14 kills and just four errors. The Anchorwomen hit just .071 as a team with 12 kills and nine errors on 42 total attacks in the set.


RIC rallied in the second half, taking the, 25-20, victory. The Anchorwomen hit .290 as a team in the set with the Huskies hitting .219 as a team. RIC took the third set with an identical, 25-20, score line, hitting an astounding .469 as a team (17-2-32).


Lace led the Anchorwomen with 16 kills to go along with 11 digs and six service aces. Malboeuf finished with 15 kills and seven digs. Junior middle blocker Sierra Smith (Longmont, CO) finished the day hitting .579 (13-2-19) with 13 kills. Sophomore setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) finished with a match best 49 assists with freshman outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) finishing with 11 digs to go along with seven winners.

USM was led by sophomore outside hitter Jess Williamson (Goffstown, NH) who registered a double-double with a match-best 21 kills to go along with 13 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Mo Raymond (Sanbornton, NH) finished with 11 kills, while senior defensive specialist Demi Ruder (Clifton, CO) finished with a match-best 16 digs.
