Providence, R.I.--Clark University used a sweep of doubles action to propel the Cougars to a 9-0 victory over Rhode Island College in menís tennis action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon.


Doubles action saw the Cougars (4-8) earn the sweep, with senior Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and junior Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, MA) topping the RIC (0-2) duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-1, at No. 1 doubles.


No. 2 doubles saw freshman Teodor Nicola-Antoniu (Bucharest, Romania) and freshman Mateo Gomez (Bogota, Colombia) best the RIC pairing of freshmen Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI), 8-0.


Clark completed the sweep of doubles action when junior Jimmy Keogh (Worcester, MA) and freshman Ian Levy (Needham, MA) topped the RIC duo of junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI), 8-1.


No. 1 singles saw Clark freshman Andrey Samodaev (Boca Raton, FL) top Taggart (6-2, 6-2), while Pinoargote bested Tiberi at the No. 2 flight (6-1, 6-0).


Pinkney topped Scott (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3 singles and Clark sophomore Lenny Siegel (Boca Raton, FL) topped Duquette (6-0, 6-0) at No. 4 singles.


The Cougarsí Gomez bested Esposito (6-1, 6-0) at No. 5 singles with freshman Jacob Malicky (South Egremont, MA) completing the sweep for the visitors, beating Gambardella (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 6 flight.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Salve Regina on Saturday, March 19 (noon).
