ESPOSITO PICKS UP LONE WIN IN, 8-1, LOSS TO SUFFOLK

Boston, Mass.óRhode Island College freshman Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) notched the lone victory for the Anchormen at No. 5 singles as RIC fell, 8-1, to Suffolk in non-conference menís tennis action on Tuesday evening.

 

The Rams (2-1) opened the match with junior Francesco Saia (Wakefield, MA) and sophomore Alono Vela (Calexico, CA) topping the RIC (0-5) duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.

 

Suffolk junior Jacob Duggan (Sharon, MA) and freshman Chris Parnagian (Cranston, RI) topped the RIC duo of junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI), 8-5, at the No. 2 pairing.

Suffolk completed the doubles sweep with junior Anton Boubnov (St. Louis, MO) and freshman Rami Esrawi (Braintree, MA) besting Esposito and freshman Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI), 9-8 (7-4) at No. 3 doubles.

 

Vela topped Taggart (7-5, 6-0) at No. 1 singles with Saia topping Tiberi (6-1, 6-4) at the No. 2 flight.

 

Parnagian bested Scott (6-2, 6-0) at No. 3 singles, while No. 4 singles saw Suffolk sophomore Kevin Clavijo (Chelsea, MA) beat Duquette (6-4, 1-6, 10-6). Esposito earned the victory at No. 5 singles, breezing past Jose Gonzalez (6-1, 6-3). Suffolk rounded out the victory with Boubnov topping Gambardella (4-6, 7-6 (10-8), 10-4) at the No. 6 matchup.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Curry on Thursday, March 31 (3 p.m.).
