Boston, Mass.-Rhode Island College freshman Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and freshman Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) earned victories in both doubles and singles action to lead the men’s tennis team to a 7-2 victory over Curry on Thursday afternoon.


The Anchormen (1-5) opened doubles play with the duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI) topping Curry’s (0-7) pairing of senior Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) and freshman Richie Hefler (Canton, CT), 8-6, at the No. 1 flight.

Esposito and Gambardella bested senior Michael Mathieu (Paxton, MA) and freshman Daniel Ritucci (Middleboro, MA), 8-1, at the No. 2 slot. RIC junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) earned the automatic victory at No. 3 doubles with a forfeit.


Blatchford topped Taggart at No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-2), while Hefler bested Tiberi (6-3, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight.


The Anchormen got back on track at No. 3 singles with Esposito topping sophomore Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, NY) (4-6, 6-1, 10-7). Scott breezed past Mathieu (6-3, 6-4) at No. 4 singles with Duquette topping Ritucci (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 5 flight.


Gambardella rounded out the victory for the Anchormen by topping CC freshman Sergie Evans (New York, NY) (6-1, 6-2) at the No. 6 pairing.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open Little East Conference play at home against UMass Boston on Saturday, April 2 ( 1 p.m.).
