Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College freshman Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI) took victories at No 6 singles and paired with classmate Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) to win at No. 2 doubles as the menís tennis team fell, 7-2, to Thomas in non-conference action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon.


The Terriers (5-7) started off quickly, with senior Tyler Small (Surry, ME) and sophomore Zach Disch (Waterville, ME) topping the RIC (2-6) duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-2, at the No. 1 pairing.


The Anchormen responded with the freshmen pairing of Gambardella and Esposito besting the Thomas freshmen duo of Ross Munn (Brunswick, ME) and Nate Philbrook (Rockland, ME), 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.

The Terriers secured the second doubles point as senior Joe Greco (Greene, ME) and senior Caleb Moura (Surry, ME) topped the RIC duo of junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI), 9-8 (7-4) at No. 3 doubles.


Small breezed past Taggart (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 singles and Disch topping Tiberi (6-4, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight.


Esposito fell to Moura (6-2, 6-1) at No. 3 singles with Munn topping Scott (6-1, 6-4) at the No. 4 matchup.


Philbrook continued the dominance for the Terriers by downing Duquette (6-2, 6-0) at No. 5 singles before Gambardella was able to top Greco (6-0, 6-1) at the No. 6 flight.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against UMass Boston on Monday, April 11 (3 p.m.).
