Salem, Mass.-Rhode Island College junior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) picked up a victory at No. 5 singles to lead the Anchormen in a 6-3 Little East Conference loss to Salem State in menís tennis action on Saturday afternoon.


Salem State (5-3, 2-1 LEC) sophomore John Didonato (Newbury, MA) and senior Kevin Lam (Salem, MA) beat the RIC duo of junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.


SSU freshman Chen Chen (Lawrence, MA) and senior David Dluznieski (Auburn, MA) beat the RIC freshmen duo of Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI), 8-4, at No. 2 doubles.

The Vikings swept the final doubles point when junior Jacob Averka (Sutton, MA) and classmate Luke Hodgkins (Winthrop, MA) beat Duquette and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI), 8-5, at No. 3.


Didonato beat Taggart (6-1, 1-6, 6-2) at the No. 1 pairing, while Chen topped Tiberi (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 2 flight.


Esposito got the Anchormen on the board, topping Lam (6-1, 6-4) at No. 3 singles. Dluznieski bested Scott (3-6, 6-2, 6-3) at the No. 4 pairing.


Duquette beat Hodgkins (6-4, 6-1) at No. 5 singles with Gambardella rounding out the singles play by defeating Averka (7-5, 6-2) at the No. 6 pairing.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home again UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 19 (3:30 p.m.).
