Newport, R.I.—Salve Regina junior attacker Courtney Moulton (West Simsbury, CT) scored five goals on five shots as the Seahawks raced past Rhode Island College, 22-0, in non-conference women’s lacrosse action on Thursday night.


Moulton opened the scoring for the Seahawks (2-5) in the opening minute, scoring on a free position shot. Junior attacker Kaitlin Gillespie (Haddam, CT) made the score 2-0 3:28 later and the hosts kept the ball rolling. Moulton and Gillespie each netted three more goals in the half to send SRU into the break with a 14-0 lead.


RIC (3-3) freshman goaltender Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) turned aside 16 shots in the half, while Salve senior keeper Katie Jones (Derry, NH) stopped two.


The Seahawks extended their advantage with freshman midfielder Lindsey  Smith (North Attleboro, MA) scoring 2:45 into the second half. Moulton would add her fifth and final goal of the game in the 36th minute and the Seahawks were able to score six more goals in the final 23:25 to take the convincing, 22-0, victory.


Eaton (3-3) stopped 17 shots in the loss, while Jones (2-5) turned aside three. Salve held a 44-4 edge in total shots (39-3 on goal) and a 17-7 edge in draw controls


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open Little East Conference play at Keene State on Saturday, April 2 (1 p.m.).
