Providence, R.I.--Rhode Island College junior Steven Letterle (Cranston, RI) and freshman Tom Sheran (Marston Mills, MA) finished in a fourth-place tie, each carding a 77, to lead the Rhode Island College menís golf team to a victory at the rain-shortened RIC Invitational held at Valley Country Club on Friday afternoon.


The second round action, scheduled for Saturday afternoon, was cancelled due to inclement weather. 81 golfers competed at the event.


RIC fielded two teams at the invite. The main squad finished first (16 teams) with a score of 315, while the second team finished in a sixth-place tie with a total score of 323. Worcester State (317), UMass Dartmouth (318), Nichols (319) and Johnson & Wales (320) rounded out the top five.

Worcester State sophomore Mike Jezierski (Thompson, CT) was the medalist, carding a 75 for the second place Lancers.


RIC sophomore Drew Quirk (Longmeadow, MA) finished in a 17th-place tie with a 79. Seniors Jonathan Cooper (Berkley, MA) and Pete Camerlengo (Pembroke, MA) finished in a tie for 33rd with an 82.


For the second squad, sophomore Matt Burke (Wakefield, RI) finished in a tie for ninth with a 78. Junior Austin Cilley (Westerly, RI) and senior RJ Soares (Dighton, MA) finished in a tie for 22nd with an 80.


Freshman Mike Caparco (Johnston, RI) finished in a 59th-place tie with an 85, while senior Eddie Francis (Burlington, MA) finished in a tie for 68th with an 89.


Senior John Roderick (Hope, RI) competed as an individual and finished tied for 62nd with a score of 86.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at UMass Dartmouthís Hampton Invitational on April 8-9.
