DUQUETTE WINS TWO AS ANCHORMEN
FALL, 6-3, TO SOUTHERN MAINE

Gorham, MaineóJunior Cory Duquette (Warwick, RI) won at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles as Rhode Island College lost, 6-3, to Southern Maine in Little East Conference menís tennis action on Saturday afternoon.

 

USM (8-1, 5-0 LEC) senior Tyler Adams (Buxton, ME) and junior Kyle Curley (Gorham, ME) defeated RIC (2-11, 0-4 LEC) junior Brett Taggart (North Kingstown, RI) and sophomore  Lee Tiberi (Smithfield, RI), 8-0, at No. 1 doubles.

 

USM senior Eric Berry-Sandelin (South Portland, ME) and sophomore Sam Holland (Falmouth, ME) bested RIC freshman Alan Esposito (Clinton, CT) and freshman Matthew Gambardella (West Warwick, RI), 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.

Duquette and freshman Chandler Scott (Ashaway, RI) earned the lone doubles point for the visitors with an 8-4 victory over senior Sebastian Taylor (Auburn, ME) and sophomore Michael Wong (Madawaska, ME) at third doubles.

 

The Huskies dominated the top three singles flights, losing just one game.

 

Adams defeated Taggart (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1 and Curley blanked Tiberi (6-0, 6-0) at No. 2 singles. Berry-Sandelin bested Esposito (6-0, 6-1) at third singles.

 

Holland defeated Scott (6-1, 6-1) at No. 4 singles. Gambardella picked up a win (6-2, 6-3) over Taylor at No. 5 singles and Duquette defeated Wong (6-1, 6-1) at sixth singles.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will continue Little East Conference action at home against Western Connecticut on Tuesday, April 26 (3:30 p.m.).
