Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior outside hitter Kelsey Lace (Glendale, RI) received a Distinguished Student-Athlete Award from the Rhode Island Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (RIAIAW) at a banquet held at the Rhode Island College Recreation Center on Wednesday evening.


A transfer from Division Two College of St. Rose, Lace provided an immediate impact for the Anchorwomen on the front line and provided one of the most dominant seasons in program history this past fall. As a senior outside hitter, Lace played in 108 sets in 30 matches. She was named the team MVP and First Team All-Little East. Lace recorded team-highs in kills with 446 and digs with 342, while registering 16 assists, 42 service aces, 35 blocks and a .213 hitting percentage.




She led the Little East Conference in kills (446), while ranking second in kills/set (4.13). Lace recorded a season-high 28 kills in match against Western Connecticut on Oct. 6. She notched a season-high 25 digs against Bridgewater State on Oct. 3. Lace registered a season-best six service aces in a victory at Southern Maine on Oct. 31. She recorded 19 double-doubles (kills and digs) on the year. Lace was named the Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week once on the season.


As a junior while at St. Rose in 2014, Lace played in 99 sets in 27 matches. She recorded 210 kills, a .171 hitting percentage, 24 assists, four aces, 41 digs and 52 blocks.


As a sophomore at St. Rose in 2013, Lace played in 86 sets in 24 matches. She recorded 221 kills, a .135 hitting percentage, 10 assists, 33 aces, 122 digs and 44 blocks.


As a freshman at St. Rose in 2012, Lace played in 94 sets in 26 matches. She recorded 291 kills, a .143 hitting percentage, seven assists, 26 aces, 150 digs and 27 blocks.


Lace is a nursing major at Rhode Island College and a 2012 graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy.
