CUMMINS AND ROBERTS LEAD
ANCHORMEN TO SIXTH PLACE FINISH AT
N.E. ALLIANCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

North Dartmouth, Mass.-Rhode Island College senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) and freshman Newell Roberts (Providence, RI) both established new program records to lead the Rhode Island College menís outdoor track & field team at the 2016 New England Alliance Championships, hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen finished sixth in the Alliance (11 teams) with a score of 54. Westfield State won the meet with a score of 157.

 

 

 Senior Edward Cummins

 

Cummins earned N.E. Alliance honors in three events, taking the title in the hammer (60.26m; program record), fifth in the shot (13.75m) and sixth in the discus (39.62m).

 

Roberts earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the pole vault (4.40m; program record).

 

 

 Freshman Newell Roberts

 

Junior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the shot (13.89m), while finishing seventh in both the discus (39.24m) and the hammer (45.47m) and ninth in the javelin (51.46m).

 

Sophomore Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) earned N.E. Alliance honors with a fourth place finish in the 110m hurdles (15.75) while also finishing 13th in the 400m (1:00.51) and 18th in the triple jump (11.66m). He also competed as a member of the seventh place 4x100m relay (43.89) and eighth place 4x400m relay (3:28.86).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the N.E. Div. III Championships, hosted by MIT on Saturday, May 7.
