CUMMINS CLAIMS N.E. TITLE IN THE HAMMER

Springfield, Mass.--Rhode Island College senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) captured the New England Championship in the hammer to lead the menís track & field team at the 2016 Div. III N.E. Track & Field Championships, hosted by Springfield College on Friday and Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchormen placed 17th (31 teams) with a score of 16.0. MIT won the meet with a score of 179.50.

 

Cummins finished first in the hammer throw (57.86m) to capture individual title and claimed the All-New England honors. He also placed 14th in the discus (39.94m).

Sophomore Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) captured All-New England honors with a third place finish in the hammer (52.18m).

 

Junior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) finished 10th in the hammer (46.26m), 18th in the shot (12.95m) and 22nd in the javelin (45.90m). Sophomore Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) finished ninth in the 110m hurdles (16.03).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the New England Open Championships (10 a.m.) on Friday and Saturday, May 13-14.
