Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College has named Conor McCloskey í14 (South Kingstown, RI) as its head menís cross country coach.


ďI am extremely excited to become the coach of the Rhode Island College men's cross country program,Ē McCloskey said. ďI am honored to work for the athletic department that did so much for me as a student-athlete.Ē




McCloskey was a three-sport standout at RIC from 2009-13 in menís cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. He helped lead RIC to a Little East Conference Championship in outdoor track & field in 2013. He captained all three sports during his junior and senior campaigns.


During his menís cross country career from 2009-12, McCloskey was named the teamís MVP as a junior and senior in 2011 and 2012. He had an outstanding senior campaign in 2012, earning All-ECAC, All-New England and N.E.-Alliance honors, while also capturing the Little East Conference Individual Championship. As a junior in 2011, McCloskey earned All-ECAC and N.E.-Alliance accolades.




He competed as a distance runner for the menís indoor track and field team from 2009-13. As a senior in 2012-13, he earned N.E. Alliance honors in the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m. During his junior season in 2011-12, McCloskey was named the teamís MVP, earned All-New England honors in the mile and took home N.E.-Alliance honors in the 1,000m and 3,000m. As a sophomore in 2010-11, he earned N.E.-Alliance honors in the 1,000m and 3,000m.


During his outdoor track and field career from 2010-13, McCloskey earned N.E.-Alliance honors in both the 1,500m and 5,000m, and captured the Little East Conference individual title in the 5,000m. He earned N.E.-Alliance honors in the 1,500m and the 5,000m as a junior in 2012. As a freshman in 2011, he earned N.E.-Alliance honors in the 800m and 1,500m.


McCloskey earned a bachelorís degree in secondary education with a concentration in history from Rhode Island College in 2014. He is currently a history teacher at Lincoln High School.


McCloskey is single and resides in South Kingstown, Rhode Island.
