CUMMINS LEADS MEN'S TRACK TO FOURTH PLACE FINISH AT SPRINGFIELD INVITATIONAL

Springfield, Mass.-Rhode Island College senior Edward Cummins (Lincoln, RI) picked up one individual win to lead the menís indoor track & field team at the season-opening Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon

 

The Anchormen finished fourth (four teams) with a score of 75.0. WPI won the meet with a score of 168.0.

Cummins, a multiple time NCAA Championship qualifier, finished first in the weight throw (17.69m) and fourth in the shot (13.07m).

 

 Freshman Newell Roberts (Providence, RI) finished third in the pole vault (4.25m) and established a new program record in that event with his effort.

Junior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) finished second in the weight throw (16.69m) and third in the shot (13.33m).

 

Sophomore Vincent Santos (Narragansett, RI) finished second in the triple jump (11.80m) and fourth in the 60m hurdles (9.03), while also competing as a member of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:39.41).

 

Freshman Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI) finished fourth in the 400m (53.66) and fourth in the triple jump (11.22m), while also competing as a member of the fourth place 4x200m relay (1:39.41).

 

Sophomore Jonathan Carney (Bristol, RI) finished sixth in the 5,000m (16:16.47) while also competing as a member of the fifth place 4x800m relay (9:36.27).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Northeastern Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 12.
