4X200M RELAY WINS N.E. TITLE

Middlebury, Vt.--The Rhode Island College women’s 4x200m relay team, comprised of senior Autumn Wosencroft (Newport, RI) and freshmen Darchelle Judd (Providence, RI), Eleni Grammas (Cranston, RI) and Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI), broke both the program and field house record en route to capturing the event title at the 2016 New England Div. III Championships, hosted by Middlebury on Saturday afternoon.

 

The Anchorwomen finished seventh (31 teams) with a score of 37.0. MIT won the meet with a score of 123.50.

Along with being a member of the record setting 4x200m relay (first place; 1:44.19), Brunelle captured individual New England titles in the high jump (1.68m; which tied the field house record) and the triple jump (11.68m; program and field house record). She also earned All-N.E. honors with a fourth place finish in the 600m (1:37.75).

 

Wosencroft finished seventh in the 200m (26.15), 11th in the 400m (1:00.60) and 14th in the long jump (4.97m), while also competing as a member of the record-setting 4x200m relay (first place; 1:44.19).

 

Judd finished ninth in the 200m (26.23), while also competing as a member of the record-setting 4x200m relay (first place; 1:44.19).

 

Junior Allison Lomas (Saunderstown, RI), junior Lauren Deguire (Blackstone, MA), sophomore Briana Lenihan (Saunderstown, RI) and freshman Veronica Northup (Hope, RI) competed as a member of the 15th-place 4x800m relay (10:38.51).

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will compete at the N.E. Open Championships hosted by Boston University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27.
