Cedar Rapids, Iowa--Rhode Island College senior 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin (Cranston, RI) and classmate 184 lbs. Brandon Conrad (East Bridgewater, MA) each earned All-American honors at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Wrestling National Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 11-12.


The Anchormen are currently 29th (53 teams) at the meet with a score of 12.5.



 Senior 141 lbs. Shawn Giblin


Giblin went 3-3 at the event to finish eighth and earn All-American honors. Following an 11-3 loss to Wabash’s Michael Venezia in his opening contest, Giblin won his next match by with a pin (6:51) over Cornell College’s Josh Martin. He then earned a 9-4 decision over Williams’ Brendon Seyfried in wrestlebacks to advance to the next round. He won his final match at the event with an 11-6 decision over St. Johns’ (MN) Allen Henle, before falling, 11-4, to seventh-seeded Chris Williams from Millikin and having to withdraw from his final bout due to an injury. Giblin closed out his season with a 21-4 overall record.



 Senior 184 lbs. Brandon Conrad


Conrad was 3-2 for the weekend, which placed him seventh and earned him All-American accolades. He opened the weekend with a 6-2 loss to eighth-seeded Jeff Palmeri from Brockport. He followed that with a 14-7 decision victory over Ron Tassoni (Washington & Lee) and a 3-2 decision over Grant Wedepohl (Wisconsin-Platteville) to earn All-American honors. He was pinned (6:50) against sixth-seeded Carlos Toribio (Ithaca), but avenged his opening-round loss with a 19-9 major decision victory over Palmeri to clinch the seventh spot. Conrad closed out the season with a 26-8 overall record.
