BRUNELLE FINISHES 10th IN THE TRIPLE JUMP
AT NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Grinnell, IA--Rhode Island College freshman Melanie Brunelle (Warwick, RI) finished 10th in the triple jump (11.64m) at the 2016 NCAA Div. III Women’s Indoor Track & Field National Championships hosted by Grinnell College on Saturday afternoon.

 

Brunelle was competing at her first NCAA National Championships.

 

This season, Brunelle earned four All-New England honors, finishing first in the high jump (1.68m; program & field house record), first in the triple jump (11.68m; field house record) and fourth in the 600m (1:37.75), while also competing as a member of the first place 4x200m relay (1:44.19; program & field house record) at the 2016 N.E. Div. III Championships Feb. 19-20. She earned a trio of N.E. Alliance titles, finishing first in the 600m (1:37.12), first in the long jump (5.32m) and first in the triple jump (11.43m), while also earning N.E. Alliance honors with a third place finish in the high jump (1.58m), and a seventh-place effort in the 60m hurdles (9.76).

 

 

 

Brunelle nabbed a N.E. Alliance honor by competing as a member of the second place 4x200m relay (1:45.91) at the 2016 N.E. Alliance Championships on Feb. 13. She was named both the Little East Conference women’s Field Athlete of the Year and the women’s Rookie Field Athlete of the year while being named the Little East Conference’s Rookie Field Athlete of the Week nine times this winter. Brunelle broke four school records on the season, including the school’s triple jump record (11.86m), which she set at the N.E. Open Championships.

 

Brunelle and the Anchorwomen return to action on April 2nd when they compete at the Coast Guard Invitational to open the outdoor season (10 a.m.).
