Willimantic, Conn.--Rhode Island College sophomore guard Jessa Rubera (Newton, MA) and senior forward Devin Hill (Danielson, CT) scored 16 points apiece as the Anchorwomen fell to Eastern Connecticut, 63-54, in Little East Conference women’s basketball action played at Geissler Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.


Hill led the Anchorwomen (3-6, 1-1 LEC) with 16 points, while chipping in nine rebounds two assists and five steals. Rubera tied her career-best on 6-for-11 shooting from the floor, which included a 3-for-4 performance from downtown.


RIC shot 29.7 percent (19-for-64) from the field, 26.7 percent (4-for-15) from three-point range and 85.7 percent (12-for-14) from the charity stripe as a team.

ECSU (5-3, 1-1 LEC) was led by senior forward Jill Ritrosky (Pittsfield, MA) who, despite being in foul trouble for much of the game, tied the game-high with 16 points to go along with seven rebounds. Junior guard Julia DePoi (Brookfield, CT) notched a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, which included 12 on the defensive end. Eastern shot 41.1 percent (23-for-56) from the floor, 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from downtown and 72.7 percent (8-for-11) from the free throw line as a squad. Eastern held a slim, 42-38, edge in rebounds.


The third quarter proved to be the tipping point in the game, as the Warriors extended their advantage to 13 points, 50-37, entering the final 10 minutes. Ritrosky did much of her damage in the final quarter, tossing in eight points and four rebounds in the final frame.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Div. I at Brown on Wednesday, Jan. 6 (12:30 p.m.).
