MCCUTCHEON SHINES ON SENIOR NIGHT

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College senior Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) earned victories in the 1,000-yard free (12:29.18)  the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.41) as the Rhode Island College women's swimming team fell to Husson, 130-108, in a meet held at Bryant University on Friday night.

 

McCutcheon, who was competing in her first event of the season and her final home event as an Anchorwoman, was honored in a pre-meet ceremony.

 

Husson (5-2) was led by sophomore Lara Sarett (Smithtown, NY), who finished first in the 50-yard breast (32.24), first in the 100-yard breast (1:10.50) and first in the 200-yard IM (2:30.85). She also competed as a member of the second place 200-yard medley relay squad (2:09.92).

 

McCutcheon rounded out her night as a competitor on the first place 200-yard medley relay squad (2:07.02), while also competing as a member of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:56.44).

Sophomore Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) finished first in the 50-yard butterfly (30.45), second in the 100-yard breast (1:14.18) and second in the 50-yard breast (33.65), while also competing as a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.02).

 

Freshman Madison Lane (Barrington, RI) finished first in the 50-yard backstroke (34.90) and first in the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.12) while also competing as a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.02) and the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:56.44).

 

Junior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.75), first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:20.50) and first in the 500-yard freestyle (6:11.36), while also competing as a member of the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:56.44).

 

Freshman Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) finished third in both the 50-yard freestyle (30.02) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:24.14), while also competing as a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.02) and the first place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:56.44).

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action and travel to Western Connecticut on Sunday, Jan. 24 (Noon).
