CURRAN LEADS ANCHORWOMEN AT
LITTLE EAST CHAMPIONSHIPS

Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College sophomore Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) finished with a pair of top-six finishes to lead the Rhode Island College women’s swimming team at the 2016 Little East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.

 

RIC placed sixth (seven teams) with a score of 92.0. Keene State won the meet with a score of 625.50.

 

 

 

Curran finished fourth in the 100-yard breast (1:14.19) and sixth in the 200-yard breast (2:47.70), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.05) and the fifth place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.16).

 

Junior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly (2:50.32) and 10th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:49.04), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.05) and the fifth place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.16).

 

Senior Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) finished fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:32.62) and eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:37.22), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.05) and the fifth place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.16).

 

Freshman Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) finished 10th in the 100-yard breast (1:22.19), 10th in the 200-yard breast (3:01.46) and 14th in the 50-yard freestyle (29.76), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:11.05).

 

Junior Rachel Soria (Pawtucket, RI) finished 16th in the 100-yard back (1:15.38) and 20th in the 200-yard back (2:45.90), while also competing as a member of the fifth place 200-yard medley relay (2:07.16).

 

In upcoming action, the Anchorwomen will compete at the 2016 NEISDA Championships on Feb. 12-14.
