CURRAN EARNS ALL-NEW ENGLAND
HONORS AT NEISDA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Providence, R.I.--Sophomore Sydney Curran (North Kingstown, RI) earned All-New England honors with an eighth place finish in the 50-yard breast (33.23) to lead the Rhode Island College women’s swimming team at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships held at the University of Rhode Island on Feb. 12-14.

 

The Anchorwomen finished 15th (21 teams) with a team score of 172.0 at the event, which featured Div. II and Div. III opponents. Roger Williams won the meet on the women’s side with a score of 1,453.

 

Along with her All-New England honor, Curran finished 15th in the 100-yard breast (1:14.54) and 15th in the 100-yard IM (1:07.60), while also competing as a member of the 12th-place 800-yard freestyle relay (8:56.99), the 14th-place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:07.12) and the 15th-place 200-yard medley relay (2:06.28).

Junior Abbie Leazes (Providence, RI) finished 15th in the 400-yard IM (5:14.20) and 17th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:20.19), while also competing as a member of the 12th-place 800-yard freestyle relay (8:56.99), the 14th-place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:07.12) and the 15th-place 200-yard medley relay (2:06.28).

 

Senior Marykate McCutcheon (Smithfield, RI) finished 12th in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:35.77), while also competing as a member of the 12th-place 800-yard freestyle relay (8:56.99), the 14th-place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:07.12) and the 15th-place 200-yard medley relay (2:06.28).

 

Freshman Courtney Payne (Waterford, CT) competed as a member of the 12th-place 800-yard freestyle relay (8:56.99), the 14th-place 400-yard freestyle relay (4:07.12) and the 15th-place 200-yard medley relay (2:06.28).
