Bridgewater, Mass.-The Rhode Island College menís soccer team notched a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater State in a non-conference contest played at Swenson Field on Wednesday evening.


The two teams played through a scoreless first half that saw both teams with solid scoring chances. RIC (3-2) had a 6-4 advantage in shots over Bridgewater State (2-1) for the stanza. 


The visiting Anchormen got on the board early in the second half when Bridgewater State was whistled for a foul in the box in the 56th minute.  On the ensuing penalty kick, RIC senior midfielder Dan Monteiro (Pawtucket, RI) kept the ball low to the ground and sent a shot past the diving Bridgewater State keeper for the 1-0 lead.

Bridgewater State had its chances down the stretch, which included a point blank shot from sophomore midfielder Riley Fleck (Foxboro, MA) with just under two minutes left on the clock that was saved by senior goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) to preserve the shutout. 


Moura recorded his second shutout of the season and 11th of his career with five saves for the visitors, while freshman netminder Nate Morgado (Dartmouth, MA) suffered the loss, allowing the lone goal with two saves.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open Little East Conference play at Southern Maine on Saturday, Sept. 17 (2:30 p.m.).
