Gorham, Maine--Junior forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI) scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lead the Rhode Island College menís soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine in the Little East Conference opener for both clubs on Saturday afternoon.


Dogbey opened the scoring for RIC (4-2, 1-0 LEC) just 4:11 into the contest when he blasted in an unassisted goal just inside the far post from the right side of the field for the 1-0 advantage. The Anchormen extended the lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute when Dogbey carried the ball into the box, drew out the Southern Maine junior goalkeeper Charlie Mull (Portland, ME) and slipped a shot into the back of the net with what would later prove to be the game-winner. RIC took the two goal advantage heading into halftime after outshooting Southern Maine by a dominating, 13-0, margin.

Southern Maine (0-4-2, 0-1 LEC) chipped away at the RIC lead in the 65th minute when Mull, playing the field for the second half, scored with an assist credited to junior Qutaiba Hassoon (Portland, ME), to make the score 2-1. The Anchormen added an insurance goal late in the contest as Dogbey started in on a breakaway in the 81st minute and found junior midfielder Ty Catunto (New Bedford, MA), who buried a shot into the corner of the net to give RIC the victory.


Senior goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) made one save for RIC, while Mull recorded four saves in the loss for the Huskies.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Framingham State on Wednesday, Sept. 21 (4 p.m.).
