Milton, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s tennis team remained undefeated for the 2016 campaign with an 8-1 win against Curry in a non-conference contest held at the Big Nine Courts on Thursday afternoon.


RIC (6-0) took two of the three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles contest against Curry (1-7) en route to the commanding victory. 


In doubles action, the Anchorwomen’s No.1 pair of junior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) earned an 8-1 victory over the Colonels Keeley Hardy (Charleston, SC) and Kayla Prete (Orange, CT)


The No. 2 duo of sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI) bested Curry's Katelyn Harrington Westport, MA) and Laura Ferris (Shelton, CT), 8-2.

The Colonels earned a win when the No. 3 doubles partners of Stephanie Leblanc (East Bridgewater, MA) and Jennifer Dube (Coventry, CT) outlasted freshman Alejandra Alonzo (Pawtucket, RI) and sophomore Jenna St. Lawrence (Greenville, RI), 8-1.


Reilly won her match (6-0, 6-0) against Hardy at No. 1 singles and Reddy claimed her tilt at No. 2 singles against Prete (6-1, 6-1). At No. 3 singles, Braganca posted a (6-0, 6-0) win over Ferris.  


RIC senior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, NJ) notched a (7-5, 10-5) win at No. 4 singles over Harrington, while Romeo earned the No. 5 singles win for the Anchorwomen (6-3, 6-2) by defeating Leblanc. Rounding out the action at the No. 6 position, RIC freshman Laura Cruso (Westerly, RI) knocked off Curry's Taylor Johnson (Abington, MA) (6-2, 6-1).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at home against Western Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 24 (1 p.m.).
