Weston, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s soccer team battled Regis to a double-overtime scoreless tie in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon. 


The first half saw back and forth action with Rhode Island College (3-3-2) holding the 5-3 advantage in shots over Regis (5-3-1) for the stanza. It was the second half where the visiting Anchorwomen took control of the contest, outshooting Regis by an 11-3 margin. RIC failed to capitalize on the scoring opportunities, however as regulation ended in a 0-0 tie.

RIC continued to put on the pressure offensively in the first overtime period, outshooting the Pride, 3-1. RIC junior midfielder Stephanie Ricci (Smithfield, RI) and freshman forward Madyson Christian (Douglas, MA) each had shots that were turned away by freshman Noelle Garcia (Los Angeles, CA) late in the stanza to keep the game scoreless.


In the second overtime session, RIC notched a pair of shots on goal, including one by senior midfielder Jaclyn Greenman (Waterford, CT) in the 103rd minute that was saved by Garcia as the game ended in the 0-0 tie. The Anchorwomen had a commanding, 24-7, advantage in shots for the contest.


Freshman goalkeeper Amber-Marie Francois (Warwick, RI) had three stops in goal for RIC while Garcia notched nine saves for Regis.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Lesley on Thursday, Sept. 29 (6 p.m.)
