Providence, R.I.-Junior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) and sophomore outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) finished with eight and seven kills, respectively, to lead the Rhode Island College womenís volleyball team past Nichols, 3-0, at The Murray Center on Wednesday night.


RIC (6-6) won the first set, 25-18, over the Bison (4-8), led by Wardís three kills and four digs. Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) posted three aces and handed out three assists. NC freshman outside hitter Jíena Baker (Rockledge, FL) led the visitors with three kills and four digs.

The hosts took set two, 25-21, to build a 2-0 lead heading into the third frame. Ward and Lambrese each contributed four kills, while White dished out 10 assists, in the stanza. Baker paced the Bison with four winners. The Anchorwomen doubled up NCís offensive output in the frame by leading, 14-7, in kills.


RIC jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the decisive set and eventually won, 25-10, to secure the shutout.


Lambrese finished with eight kills and seven digs, while Ward posted seven winners and six digs. White registered a match-high 15 assists, six aces and a team-best eights digs.


Baker led the Bison with eight kills and a match-high nine digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will face Clark and Mount Holyoke in a tri-match hosted by the Cougars on Saturday, Oct. 1 (1 p.m.).
