Worcester, Mass.—Sophomore outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) led the way with 32 kills and 24 digs, while junior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) hit .225 (29-13-71) with 29 winners, as the Rhode Island College women’s volleyball team split a tri-match held at Clark on Saturday afternoon.


Rhode Island College (7-7) picked up a 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 25-15) victory over Mount Holyoke (2-10) in the opener before dropping a 3-0 (11-25, 18-25, 29-31) decision against the host Cougars (12-6) to wrap up the afternoon.


In the win over Mount Holyoke, Rhode Island college was led by Ward who tallied a double-double with 21 kills and 15 digs, while Lambrese added 20 kills. Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) handed out a season best 52 assists and chipped in with 13 digs. Senior libero Megan Armburg (Swansea, MA) notched a match-high 18 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Jamesa Allen (Orlando, FL) paced Mount Holyoke with 11 kills and nine digs, while sophomore middle hitter Sarah Caggiano (Leonardtown, MD) recorded 10 kills and three digs in the setback. Senior setter Natalie Lyon (Oakton, VA) notched a double-double with 33 assists and 15 digs for the Lyons.

The setback against Clark once again had Ward leading the way for RIC with 11 kills, nine digs and two blocks, while Lambrese notched nine kills with two digs and a block. White notched 24 assists with seven digs, while Armburg added a team high 11 digs for the Anchorwomen. 


Junior outside hitter Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) registered a match-high 14 kills and eight digs for the Cougars, while junior outside hitter Jacqueline Jimenez-Maldonado (San Francisco, CA) notched 13 kills, seven digs and a block. Sophomore setter Rachel Webb (Celina, TX) tallied 32 set assists with seven digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at home against Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday, Oct. 4 (6 p.m.).
