Danbury, Conn.--The Rhode Island College women’s soccer team fell to Western Connecticut, 5-0, in a Little East Conference contest played at The Westside Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.


Junior forward Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT) scored a pair of goals to lead the way for Western Connecticut (8-4-2, 2-1-1 LEC).  WCSU outshot RIC (4-5-2, 1-1-1 LEC) by an 18-10 margin in the victory. 


Sorice notched her first goal of the afternoon in the 19th minute, scoring on a pass from junior midfielder Brooke Hellman (Newington, CT). Hellman then added some insurance for the Colonials as she scored her first collegiate goal at the 23:08 mark of the first half. With just over 13 minutes remaining before intermission, sophomore forward Allison Oakley (Beekman, NY) headed home a corner kick from senior midfielder Celia DeVoe (Farmington, CT) to give the Colonials a three-goal advantage at the break.

Sorice added her 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute of play and a goal by DeVoe in the 57th minute closed out the scoring for the afternoon as Western Connecticut cruised to its eighth win of the season.


Junior Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) earned the victory in goal for Western Connecticut with three saves. Freshman Amber-Marie Francois (Warwick, CTI) made five saves for the Anchorwomen, while junior Brianna Sousa (Warwick, RI) made a pair of saves in relief for the visitors.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will play at Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, Oct. 12 (7 p.m.).
