Worcester, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s tennis team defeated Worcester State 7-2 in a Little East Conference contest on the road on Saturday evening.


RIC (10-1, 6-1 LEC) swept all of three doubles spots against Worcester State (6-6, 4-4 LEC) to jump out to the early 3-0 advantage.  The Anchorwomen’s No. 1 team of junior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and senior Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) posted an 8-2 victory over Worcester State’s team of senior Shelby Jankins (West Brookfield, MA) and sophomore Nathalie Khafaga (Auburn, MA). 


RIC sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, MA) posted an 8-2 win at the No. 2 spot over the Lancers duo of freshman Isabel Badeau (Cumberland, RI) and junior Rachel Green (Worcester, MA). The No. 3 pairing of RIC junior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) and senior Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) won by forfeit to complete the doubles sweep.


In singles action, Reilly recorded a perfect (6-0, 6-0) win over Jankins at the No. 1 spot.  Reddy then recorded her second win of the day with a (6-1, 6-1) victory at No. 2 against junior Alexis Silk (Greenfield, MA)


Worcester State notched their first point of the day at the No. 3 singles spot with Khafaga recording a (6-3, 7-4) victory against Martin. At No. 4 singles spot, Green took a (6-4, 6-0) win over Martin for Worcester State’s second point in the contest. Romeo tallied her second win on the afternoon with a (6-3, 6-1) win at No. 5 for RIC, while sophomore Jenna St. Lawrence (Greenville, RI) was awarded the forfeit at No. 6 to secure the 7-2 win for the Anchorwomen.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will host Clark in a non-conference contest on Thursday, Oct. 13 (3:30 p.m.).
