Wenham, Mass.-The Rhode Island College menís soccer team defeated Gordon, 2-1, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon.  The loss snapped a nine game-unbeaten streak for the Fighting Scots.

Rhode Island College (9-3-1, 1-1-1 LEC) jumped out to the lead just 7:30 into the game when junior forward Cooper Ferreira (Westerly, RI) scored his second goal of the season off of a feed from classmate forward Komla Dogbey (Providence, RI).  RIC took the one goal lead heading into halftime despite Gordon (9-2-1) holding the slight, 10-9, advantage in shots for the stanza.

The Anchormen struck again early in the second half when senior midfielder Dan Monteiro (Pawtucket, RI) played a through ball to sophomore midfielder Dennis Vazquez (Providence, RI). Vazquez then slid in a shot just under the cross bar for the 2-0 advantage in the 50th minute.

RIC senior goalkeeper Chris Moura (Rumford, RI) made six saves, while senior Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, PA) notched three stops in the setback for the Fighting Scots.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference action at Keene State on Saturday, Oct. 15 (4 p.m.).
