Providence, R.I.-Rhode Island College seniors Julie Reddy (Smithfield, RI) and Jorgie Martin (Greenville, RI) each won in doubles action on Senior Day as Rhode Island College defeated Clark, 7-2, in collegiate women’s tennis action played at the RIC Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.


RIC (11-1) took all three doubles matches from the Cougars (5-9) to build a 3-0 lead.

RIC junior Dayna Reilly (Swansea, MA) and Reddy downed Clark junior Isabelle Long (Bellevue, WA) and sophomore Emily Shurman (Needham, MA), 9-7, at No. 1 doubles.


At No. 2 doubles, RIC sophomore Katherine Braganca (Pawtucket, RI) and junior Isabella Romeo (Greenville, RI) defeated CU sophomore Adrien Horowitz (Arvada, CO) and freshman Anna Gates (North Scituate, RI), 8-6.


At No. 3 doubles, RIC junior Laura Nastasi (Smithville, NJ) and Martin defeated the Cougar tandem of sophomore Maggie Tarbox (Lebanon, CT) and junior Misa Mai (Sanford, ME), 8-6.


Due to darkness and rain, the singles matches were conducted as 10-game pro-sets.  


Reilly defeated Long (9-5) at No. 1 singles, while Shuman defeated Reddy (10-3) at No. 2 singles.


Nastasi bested Horowitz (8-4) and No. 3 singles and Braganca downed Gates (10-1) at No. 4 singles. Clark senior Amy Fallon (Derby, England) defeated Martin (8-3) at No. 5 singles and Romeo downed Mai (7-4) at No. 6 singles.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will close out the regular season with a pivotal Little East Conference match at Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 15 (1 p.m.).
