Providence, R.I.-The Rhode Island College women’s volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 (10-25, 27-29, 19-25) decision against intra-city rival and the second-ranked team in New England Johnson & Wales at the Murray Center on Thursday evening.


RIC (9-12) was led by junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) with 11 kills and four digs, while sophomore outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs in the setback. Junior setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) notched 24 assists and seven digs, while junior middle blocker Sierra Smith (Longmont, CO) registered a team-best four blocks to go along with three kills for the Anchorwomen.

Leading the way for Johnson & Wales (26-0) was freshman outside hitter Maria Coniglio (Old Bethpage, NY) with a team-best 10 kills and eight digs, while sophomore middle hitter Emily Kalmink (Byron Center, MI) tallied nine kills and a match-high seven blocks. Freshman setter Brylee Frank (Palm City, FL) recorded 33 assists and seven digs, while freshman defensive specialist Gianna Esposito (Larkspur, CA) posted a match-best 15 digs.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will resume Little East Conference play at home against Plymouth State on Saturday, Oct. 22 (1 p.m.).
