Willimantic, Conn.--The Rhode Island College womenís soccer team wrapped up the 2016 regular season with a 5-0 loss on the road at Eastern Connecticut in Little East Conference action on Saturday afternoon.


RIC (6-10-2, 2-4-1 LEC) will need Keene State to defeat UMass Boston (5 p.m.) later today in order to clinch the programís first berth in the Little East Conference Tournament since 2007.


Junior forward Emily Belcher (Brooklyn, CT) put ECSU (12-3-2, 6-0-1 LEC) on the board just 5:40 into the contest when she scored with assists credited to junior defenseman Michele DíAgata (West Suffield, CT) and senior forward Hailey Lehning (Woodbury, CT). The Warriors held the one goal lead heading into halftime after outshooting RIC by a commanding, 14-1, margin.

Eastern Connecticut continued to control the action offensively and went ahead by a pair, 2-0, in the 55th minute as junior defenseman Krista Peterson (Wallingford, CT) headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder McKenzie Reimondo (Portland, CT). The Warriors extended the lead to 3-0 at the 60:45 mark as Lehning scored with an assist by Belcher. ESCU upped the advantage to 4-0 just over a minute later as Belcher notched her 11th goal of the season with an assist by Lehning. The Warriors capped off the scoring for the afternoon as senior midfielder Jamie Belden (Middlebury, CT) scored an unassisted goal at the 67:06 mark to lead to the shutout victory. ECSU outshot RIC by a 25-5 margin in the win.


Junior goalkeeper Brianna Sousa (Warwick, RI) had five stops in goal in the loss for RIC, while sophomore Kayla Labrecque (Westhampton, MA) notched three saves in the win for the Warriors.
