Clermont, Fla.--The Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team wrapped up their spring trip with a 12-3 loss against Simmons in contest played at the National Training Center on Saturday.


Simmons (1-3) opened the game with eight unanswered goals, which included three from junior attacker Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, MA). The Sharks took that 8-0 lead heading into halftime after holding a 17-1 advantage in shots for the stanza.


RIC (0-3) got on the board less than a minute into the second half on an unassisted goal from senior midfielder Jessica Trautman (Narragansett, RI) with 29:02 left on the clock. The Anchorwomen added a pair of goals from senior midfielder Betsy Heidel (Warwick, RI), but it wasn’t enough as Simmons cruised to the 12-3 victory.

Simmons held a 38-8 advantage in shots for the contest and registered a 33-20 advantage in ground balls. Fries notched five goals for Simmons, while sophomore midfielder Elena Bragg (Belmont, MA) chipped in with three goals and an assist.


Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) recorded 20 saves in the loss for RIC, while sophomore goalkeeper Kenzie Rogers (Bourne, MA) notched the win with one save for Simmons.


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will open the home portion of the 2017 schedule when it hosts Elms in a non-conference contest on Tuesday, March 14 (6:30 p.m.).
