ANCHORWOMEN DOWN BECKER, 9-3,
FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

Leicester, Mass.-The Rhode Island College women’s lacrosse team posted its second straight victory with a 9-3 win over Becker in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

 

RIC (2-5) dominated the game early on and jumped out to a 5-0 lead midway through the first half, led by a hat trick from sophomore attacker Tess Bradley (Tiverton, RI). Becker (1-5) got on the board with a goal from freshman midfielder Cassandra Nelson (Exeter, NH) to make the score 5-1 with 14:49 left in the stanza. Bradley then notched her fourth goal of the contest with 6:12 left in the frame to put the Anchormen up 6-1. RIC held the five goal lead heading into halftime after outshooting Becker by a 16-6 margin.

The Anchorwomen continued to control the action in the second half and tacked on three more goals to take the 9-3 victory. Bradley notched four goals for RIC, while senior midfielder Betsy Heidel (Warwick, RI) posted a pair of goals in the win for the Anchorwomen. RIC had a 27-12 advantage in shots and had a 37-33 advantage in ground balls for the contest.

 

Sophomore goalkeeper Julia Eaton (Cumberland, RI) made seven saves in the win for RIC, while Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, ME) made 13 stops in the loss for Becker.

 

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday, April 1 (1 p.m.).
