Providence, R.I.--The Rhode Island College menís outdoor track & field squad posted a third place finish at the Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon. The Anchormen totaled 92.0 points at the 17-team event. Franklin Pierce, which took home the team title with a score of 181.0, an Bentley both Div. II institutions) were the only teams to finish ahead of RIC.


RIC senior Colin Cabral (Cumberland, RI) captured first place in the shot (13.62m), third in the javelin (49.60m), fourth in the hammer (41.92m) and was fifth in the discus (35.83).

RIC junior Matthew Charles (North Providence, RI) recorded third place finishes in both the 100m (11.18) and the 200m (23.24). He also ran the lead leg of the 4x100m relay team that registered a second place finish (44.75).


Freshman Jephte Wagnac (Providence, RI) placed third in the triple jump (13.46m) and 12th in the long jump (5.81m). He ran the opening leg of the 4x400m relay team that placed third (3:30.11) and had the third leg of the second place 4x100m relay team (44.75). Wagnac also finished second in the 400m hurdles (54.90).


Junior Victor Santos (Narragansett, RI) notched a third place finish in the 110m hurdles (16.17) and was ninth in the 400m hurdles (1:00.46).


RIC junior Jonathan Carney (Bristol, RI) posted a 52nd place finish in the 5,000m (17:20.93), while sophomore Jeff Garson (Cumberland, RI) recorded a 57th place finish in the 5,000m (18:43.99).


Sophomore Destin Bibemi (Providence, RI) was seventh in the 400m (51.88). He also placed second as a member of the 4x100m relay (44.75) and ran the second leg of the 4x400m relay team that finished third (3:30.11). Senior Joel Ikuejamofo (Providence, RI) was eighth in the 400m (53.05) and ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay that finished second (44.75). He also ran the anchor leg of the third place 4x400m relay team.


Freshman Jahnold Bruce (Newport, RI) took home 15th in the 100m (11.59) and was 17th in the 200m (24.06).


Junior Shamar Spruill (Providence, RI) notched a third place finish in the discus (41.58m) and was second in the hammer (52.85m). Freshman Joe Palazzo (Providence, RI) registered a fifth place finish in the hammer, while sophomore Adam Stomberg (West Greenwich, RI) was 12th in the hammer (32.92m) and 24th in the discus (25.26m).


In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the 2017 Sean Collier Invitational, hosted by MIT on Saturday, April 22 (10 a.m.).
