Bristol, R.I.-The Rhode Island College wrestling team wrapped up the first day of action at the 2017 NCAA Div. III Northeast Regional Championship, hosted by Roger Williams on Saturday. The Anchormen are currently in 15th place (18 teams) with 13.0 points after the first day of competition.


RIC junior Michael Gallagher (Narragansett, RI) has already secured All-Northeast Regional honors at 184 lbs., after posting a 2-0 record on Saturday. Gallagher notched a pin against Trinity’s Joe Caggiano in just 2:03 and will wrestle in the semifinals of the championship bracket on Sunday.

Senior John Georges (Cranston, RI) posted a 2-1 record at 285 lbs., and will participate in the consolation bracket tomorrow for the Anchormen. Georges is still in contention for All-Northeast Regional honors.


The top six wrestlers at each weight class earn All-Northeast Region honors, with the top three finishers in each weight class earning a bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III National Championships, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse on March 10 (10 a.m.)
