Ithaca, N.Y.--Senior John Gorges (Cranston, RI) placed second at 285 lbs. as the Rhode Island College wrestling team opened the 2015-16 at the Ithaca Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5.


RIC finished ninth in the 11-team field, compiling a team score of 45.5. Ithaca won the invitational with a score of 173.5.


Georges went 4-1, which included four straight victories to open the tournament, with three wins via pin, before falling in the championship bout of his weight class to earn the second place finish.

Sophomore Daniel Murray (Bay Shore, NY) went 4-3 on the weekend to record a sixth place finish at 125 lbs. for the Anchormen.


Junior Javante Johnson (Wakefield, RI) posted a 3-2 mark at 285 lbs., which included one win by pin.


 Freshman Frankie Roman (Parlin, NJ) went 2-2 at 133 lbs., while freshman Thomas Mountain (Hope, RI) registered a 2-2 record at 141 lbs. Sophomore Zachary Ford (Flagler Beach, FL) posted a 2-2 mark at 157 lbs. and junior Michael Gallagher (Narragansett, RI) also went 2-2 for the weekend at 197 lbs.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will compete at the Doug Parker Invitational, hosted by Springfield on Saturday, Nov. 19 (10 a.m.).
