ANCHORWOMEN CRUISE TO FIFTH STRAIGHT SHUTOUT

Providence, R.I.—Junior outside hitter Jillian Ward (Coventry, RI) posted a double-double with 15 kills and 18 digs to lead Rhode Island College to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-20, 25-16) win over New England College in collegiate women’s volleyball action played at The Murray Center on Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Anchorwomen won the opening frame, 25-16, as Ward hit .462 (8-2-13) to pace the offense. Senior outside hitter Courtney Lambrese (Cranston, RI) chipped in with five digs and three kills. Classmate setter Abigayl White (Coventry, RI) handed out 10 assists. NEC freshman outside hitter Kayleigh MacDougall (Farmington, NH) had three kills and junior libero Meaghan Six (Manchester, NH) was credited with six digs.

• Ward again led the hosts to a win, 25-20, in the second frame with a six-kill, five-dig effort. White had nine assists. Pilgrim freshman middle hitter Dreka Griffin (Calera, AL) posted five kills and classmate setter Kennedy Somavia (Red Bluff, CA) notched six assists.

• The third set saw RIC seal the win with a 25-16 victory as Lambrese knocked down four winners and Ward registered 10 digs.

• Lambrese finished the match with 10 kills and nine digs, while White handed out 25 assists. Griffin led the visitors with seven winners. 

 

BY THE NUMBERS
• RIC hit .133 (33-20-98) in the win, while NEC hit -.091 (16-25-99). 

• The Anchorwomen held the advantage in digs, 51-41, and service aces, 10-3.

• The victory marked the fifth straight win for Rhode Island College, with all five being, 3-0, shutouts.

 

WHO'S NEXT
In upcoming action, Rhode Island College will travel to Keene State, and face the Owls along with MCLA, on Saturday, Oct. 21 (Noon).
